On November 13, 2024, President Chen Wannan delivered a profound ideological and political (IP) lecture on the theme “Strengthening Health Science Popularization to Contribute to the Building of a Healthy China” at the Life Science Hall. The lecture was attended by students from clinical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage, nursing, and other disciplines, along with faculty from the Department of Basic Medicine and the School of Marxism.

During the class, President Chen sat on the floor with the students, engaging in warm and interactive discussions, gaining insight into the students’ thoughts and academic lives. President Chen highlighted the importance of health science popularization in the broader context of building a Healthy China. She explained the critical role of science popularization through three key perspectives: “Strengthening national power through science and technology, with science popularization leading the way,” “Mapping the blueprint for a Healthy China,” and “A small step for health science popularization, a giant leap for a Healthy China.” She emphasized the value of respecting life and science, encouraging the students to embrace the mission and responsibility of being medical students in the new era. President Chen urged the students to strengthen their awareness of the responsibility for science popularization, improve their own scientific literacy, promote the spirit of scientists, and implement a people-centered development approach. She also called for improving the quality and content of health science popularization, contributing to the building of a Healthy China. Furthermore, President Chen provided guidance to the faculty from the Department of Basic Medicine and the School of Marxism, stressing the importance of research on the integration of ideological education courses with other academic programs. She emphasized the need to incorporate ideological elements into science popularization efforts to clearly highlight the guiding values. Additionally, she encouraged enhancing the professionalism, scientific accuracy, and public welfare aspects of health science popularization, ensuring that it benefits the general public.

After the lecture, students visited the Life Science Hall, where they gained a deeper understanding of the mysteries of human life, the causes of diseases, and the preciousness of life itself.

President Chen’s lecture seamlessly integrated the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee with the core mission of cultivating moral character in students. By aligning the school’s educational direction with the needs of student development, the lecture effectively combined theoretical instruction with practical experience. This approach allowed the ideological and political courses to work in harmony with other academic disciplines, offering both timeliness and strong guidance. Students who participated in this lecture were greatly inspired and further embraced the idea that “Science leads the future, and science popularization lights up lives.” They are determined to shoulder the responsibilities of the times and make the most of their youthful years.
