To enhance the 8S management level of laboratories and ensure smooth experimental teaching, our college conducted a comprehensive 8S management inspection and assessment for laboratories on December 13. Led by Lin Jingcang, Vice President of the college, the inspection team consisted of the deputy directors from the Academic Affairs Office, Security Office, and Assets Office, along withsome vice deans responsible for teaching from variousschools. By reviewing materials and conducting on-site inspections across laboratoriesof all departments and schools, the team focused on inspecting eight areas: Sort (Seiri), Set in Order (Seiton), Clean (Seiso), Sustain Hygiene (Seiketsu), Quality (Shitsuke), Security-Safety, Saving, and Ecology (Seitaiken). Through standardized and detailed inspections, this assessment aimed to identify potential issuesand deficiencies in laboratory operation, which serve as an opportunity for ongoing improvement in laboratory management.
This assessment was conducted together with the “Activity for Improving Laboratory Instruments and Consumables Management” and the “Laboratory Safety and Quality Management Activity”, both being part of the college’s 2024 “Year of Better Teaching Quality” activity, which was integrated into the evaluation criteria for quantitative scoring. The assessment still follows the format of self-inspection by departmentsand schools and random inspection by the college. All departmentsand schools first inspected their laboratories using the “8S Management Evaluation Indicator Table for Laboratories of Quanzhou Medical Colleges”. On December 13, the Academic Affairs Office randomly selected 12 laboratories for inspection by the college’s 8S management and assessment team. The team followed the “Strict, Precise, and Detailed Inspection” standard, scoring each laboratory according to the evaluation table and providing feedback on identified issues. The college then determined the level of the laboratory perthe scores.
Vice President Lin acknowledged the positive impact of the 8S management practices on laboratory operation. He emphasized that regular 8S assessment acts as not only a comprehensive review of laboratory work but also a significant driver for continuous improvement. Vital for enhancing the quality and efficiency of laboratory operation, the assessment allowed the college to continuously adjust and optimise the direction and focus of laboratory work, and explore and practice new modes and methods of laboratory management. It ensures that the laboratories align with the evolving needs of teaching and research, and promote the standardisation, scientification and efficiency of laboratory management.
