On April 3, 2025, the Fourth Administrative Party Branch of Quanzhou Medical College, in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy Party General Branch, launched an immersive themed party day titled "Cultivating Roots, Strengthening Party Spirit; Planting Medicine, Protecting Green, Demonstrating Commitment." Held at a newly established 8,500-square-meter municipal voluntary tree planting base on the Luojiang Campus, the event integrated the inheritance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture with ecological civilization construction. College leaders including Party Secretary Li Boqun, Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary Yang Xiumin, and Vice Presidents Chen Xianyi and Lin Jingcang joined over 60 faculty and student Party members. Together, they pioneered a novel three-in-one model of "Party-building leadership, professional empowerment, and ecological education," adding "green momentum" to the campus while exploring a distinctive educational pathway.
At the activity site, Secretary Li Boqun, wielding a shovel alongside participating faculty and students, planted over a hundred Fenglingmu (Golden Trumpet Trees - Tabebuia chrysantha), trees valued for both medicinal properties and landscape aesthetics. Secretary Li highlighted the tree's dual significance: "The Fenglingmu symbolizes vitality and prosperity, while its extensive medicinal value deeply resonates with our medical mission of benevolence. It serves not only as a 'green guardian' improving the ecology but also as a 'living textbook' for transmitting TCM culture." He emphasized that this deeply integrated fusion of themed party day activities with professional practice vividly embodies Party-building guiding institutional development – putting the principle that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" into action while demonstrating the social responsibility inherent in medical education. Secretary Li stressed the parallel to education: "It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to cultivate talent. As the college strives towards its goal of upgrading to a bachelor's degree-granting institution, we must nurture pillars of society with a craftsman's spirit and uphold our college motto, 'Dedication, Excellence, and Service to Society.' We must root our founding purpose of 'cultivating talent for the nation and the Party' deep within every inch of our campus." He concluded by urging participants to "use this tree planting as a starting point to cultivate profound patriotism, hone practical skills, and may the saplings we plant today soon grow into towering trees!"
Following the activity, participating faculty and student Party members shared their profound experiences. A School of Pharmacy faculty member remarked during the soil-tamping process, "Moving the classroom outdoors, researching the medicinal parts of the Fenglingmu alongside students – this immersive teaching makes TCM knowledge truly tangible." This practice model, organically blending labor education, professional education, and ecological civilization construction, allowed participants to tangibly grasp the essence of "red Party-building leading green development." It also provided valuable teaching experience for further deepening practice-based education.
