On 25th April 2025, Prof. Chen Wannan, President of Quanzhou Medical College , delivered an ideo-political lecture of academic gravitas and practical relevance to students of the 2024 3+3 Higher Vocational-Undergraduate Pathway Program in Clinical Medicine and targeted trainees at the Multifunctional Auditorium of Boyi Sports & Culture Center, Nan’an Campus. Titled"Anchoring in Grassroots Medical Frontlines: Forging Youthful Character - The Mission, Accountability and Developmental Trajectory of Medical Learners in the New Era", the discourse centered on grassroots healthcare as its ontological basis and medical students’ career progression as its epistemological focus, integrating ideological-political education with professional planning through an incisive analysis of employment - the paramount concern for learners. This initiative sowed the seeds of grassroots commitment in young minds, eliciting enthusiastic feedback.
In her address, Prof. Chen first expounded the"people-centered developmental paradigm" and exhorted students to engage with the Healthy China Initiative. Grounded in empirical data on Fujian’s medical employment landscape, she deconstructed industry trends and talent demands through case studies, aligning with QZMC’s educational tenet of serving grassroots healthcare. She inspired learners to embed themselves in rural/community settings, advocating strenuous endeavor to augment primary medical services. Concluding with career-related queries, the President - drawing from her academic expertise in medical pedagogy - proffered strategic advice: to solidify resolve in grassroots service, pursue continuous curricular and skills enhancement, formulate systematic career roadmaps, monitor employment policies proactively, and assume the role of primary health guardians post-graduation.
This discourse, framed within the tripartite framework of state-level policy imperatives, societal healthcare needs, and youth-driven agency, interwove medical students’ professional obligations with national rejuvenation objectives. Going forward, QZMC will further calibrate its academic programs to national strategies and grassroots exigencies, leveraging disciplinary strengths to cultivate high-caliber professionals for primary healthcare modernization, thereby furnishing robust human capital for grassroots medical development.
