On April 23, the Launch Ceremony of the 2025 Nan’an City Nationwide Reading Series and the Special Session of QuanzhouMedical College Nationwide Reading Event were grandly held at the Library of our Nan’an Campus. Li Baiqun, Secretary of the University Party Committee; Wang Cuiling, Deputy Secretary; Guo Danhong, Deputy Director of the Quanzhou Municipal Publicity Department; Lin Shaoqing, Standing Committee Member and Director of the Publicity Department of the Nan’an Municipal Party Committee; principal leaders from the Education Bureau, Civil Affairs Bureau, Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Health Bureau; as well as leaders in charge from various townships and other distinguished guests attended the event. Together with faculty and student representatives, they jointly inaugurated a new chapter in nationwide reading.

Deepening reading promotion, highlighting the humanistic spirit of medicine

The launch ceremony commenced with a captivating recitation of “Readers Are Happy People,” fully showcasing the university’s medical humanities spirit. In his address, Li Baiqun , Secretary of the University Party Committee, emphasized that the university will build on the distinctive features of medical education, extending the “Bookish Campus” into a “Bookish Community,” bringing medical knowledge beyond the campus, allowing community culture to enrich education, and guiding faculty and students to develop the good habit of “loving to read, reading good books, and reading well” through diverse reading activities, thereby nurturing benevolence in medicine through reading.

Resource co-construction and sharing, creating a new platform for reading services

Resource expansion: Nan’an Xinhua Bookstore donated premium books worth 30,000 yuan to the university, covering fields such as medical monographs and the humanities and social sciences, enriching the university’s library resources and providing more spiritual nourishment for faculty and students;

Service upgrade: The university library and Li Chengzhi Public Library signed a co-construction agreement, with both parties engaging in in-depth cooperation in resource sharing and reading promotion, jointly providing higher-quality services for readers.

Empowering learning: The “Saturday Tutoring Classroom” project was launched, which will integrate resources from all parties in the future to provide reading guidance and academic support for local students in need, supporting their holistic development.

Role models leading by example, inspiring new intrinsic motivation for reading

At the event, appointment certificates for “Nan’an City Nationwide Reading Promotion Ambassador” were officially awarded. Professor Su Wenliang, a reading promoter representative, shared his insights on reading, sincerely recounting how reading changed his life and encouraging everyone to develop a reading habit, gaining knowledge and joy through reading.

Innovating the reading experience, blending the aroma of books and coffee

A special “Reading Coffee Station” was set up at the event, inviting professional baristas to craft specialty beverages for faculty and students. While demonstrating pour-over techniques, the baristas shared stories about coffee origins with readers, prompting onlookers to exclaim, “I’ve learned something new!” By integrating reading activities with coffee, the event broke the monotony of traditional reading events and brought readers a brand-new experience.

University-locality collaboration for development, jointly building a new model of bookish education

Guo Danhong, Deputy Director of the Quanzhou Municipal Publicity Department, and Lin Shaoqing, Standing Committee Member and Director of the Publicity Department of the Nan’an Municipal Party Committee, highly affirmed the university’s achievements in “cultivating people through culture,” gave high praise to the university’s efforts in reading promotion, and encouraged the university to continue innovating, integrating the professional characteristics of Quanzhou Medical College into reading promotion, and providing a model for “Bookish Campus” initiatives across the province.

After the launch ceremony, attending leaders and guests visited the Nan’an Campus Library and provided guidance on supporting reading activities. The successful holding of this event marks a new stage in the construction of the university-locality reading community. Guided by the “Three-Whole Education” philosophy—namely, education by all staff, throughout the entire process, and in all aspects—the university will continue to deepen the construction of a three-dimensional reading system integrating “curriculum + activities + services,” making the fragrance of books the most distinctive cultural symbol of the Medical College, and injecting spiritual strength into the cultivation of health guardians for the new era.
