Around the 30th World Book Day, departments of our college carried out a series of colorful and unique reading activities on the theme of "Reading Empowers Growth". These activities brought the campus to life with the scent of books, offeringteachers and students a feast of knowledge and showcasing the college’s strong academic atmosphere and unique characteristics.
Department of Health Sciences: Writing Chapters on Life Philosophy with Health Narratives
On April 21, a sharing session at the library, organized by the Department of Health Sciences, shed new light on healthy living. Chen Yuping, a member of the Health Classics Reading Group, delivered a talk titled "Sugar Control Chronicles: My Fitness Missteps and Awakening". Chen combined insights from the book The Sugar Revolution with personal experiences, highlighting common misconceptions like "weight anxiety" and "extreme diets" and introducing the innovative concept of "health as an art of communicating with your body". The session resonated strongly with the audience, sparking lively discussions on achieving health balance in fast-paced lives. This "health + narrative" approach not only simplified scientific concepts for daily application but also underscored the school's emphasis on integrating theory with practice in grooming health professionals.
Department of Stomatology: Exploring the Beauty of Reading to Build a Foundation for Medical Humanities
On April 22, the Department of Stomatology held a sharing session "From Surveying Rivers and Mountains in Books to Embracing All in One's Heart: A Chat on Reading" on the second floor of the library. Deputy Dean Zhou Xunhui emphasized in his opening remarks that "medicine is not just about technological advancement but also deeply rooted in humanities, with reading being key to nurturing a compassionate medical heart." During the activity, Zhu Jianbin, Deputy Director of library in our college, shared his reading experience from the professional perspective of library reading promotion, and taught the students practical reading methods. On April 23, the Department of Nursing launched the reading activity of "Dream begins with reading" in the "one-stop" student community service center in Nan 'an Campus. Hong Yingying, Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Nursing Department, took "Seven Years of Educated Youth in Xi Jinping" as a vivid teaching material, and gave an immersive Party class for League cadres and class committees. Starting from the publishing background of the book, she vividly reproduces the seven-year educated youth life of young Xi Jinping in Liangjiahe, and shows the growth process of leaders who stick to their original intentions and grow their talents in practice with real stories such as "Flea Pass", "Diet Pass" and "Labor Pass". Secretary Hong sent a deep message to the students. On April 23, the “Journey Through Millennia: Dialogues with Classics”——Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) classics reading event, was sponsored by the Party General Branchof Pharmacy Department,and organized by General Branchof Youth League of Pharmacy Department, was held at the Nan'an Campus Library. Centered on “Huangdi Neijing”, the event featured innovative interpretations by teachers including Ouyang Chaoqun, the Party General Branch's publicity officer, who integrated core TCM concepts like "treatment before disease" and "holistic perspective" into modern life scenarios, making complex theories accessible. Fourteen students shared personal experiences and recited classic passages with emotion, allowing ancient teachings such as“follow the laws of nature and master techniques”to resonate across time. On-site discussions deepened understanding of TCM culture. On April 24, the "Medicine with Warmth, Books Nourishing Hearts" seminar, organized by theCollege Youth League Committee and the library and undertaken by Huishi Book Society, was successfully held on the 2nd floor of Library, the Nan'an Campus. Focused on The Temperature of Medicine, the event featured three segments: "Reading Golden Sentences Together," "Sharing Medical Patient Stories," and "Debating Technology and Humanities." It delved into the essence of medicine encapsulated in the phrase, "Sometimes to cure, often to help, always to comfort." Students from various majors actively shared their experiences, underscoring that "the temperature of medicine lies in the details." Department of Clinical Medicine: Reading classics togetherto reflect on life, facing growth with a positive attitude
On April 25, Department of Clinical Medicine held a book-sharing session themed "The Sea of Life, Seeing Growth through Reading" at Tongchang Library, Nan'an Campus, attracting over 30 students. By reading Mai Jia's “The Sea of Life” together, students explored life's complexity and resilience and cultivated a positive attitude towards life's challenges. Student representative Huang Tingting introduced the book's background and plots, guiding everyone into the protagonist Colonel's eventful life. Subsequently, teachers and students had a heated discussion around such topics as "suffering and redemption", "brilliance of human nature" and "fate and choice". Combining book plots with personal growth dilemmas, students shared their understanding of life philosophy, with frequent interactions and golden sentences on site.
