On April 27, hosted by the Taiwan Compatriots Department of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and the Fujian Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, organized by the Quanzhou and Putian Federations of Taiwan Compatriots, and co-organized by our university, the Third “Medical Heart, Medical Journey · United in Purpose” Study Camp for Taiwan Physicians Residing on the Mainland opened at our university. Nearly 40 Taiwan physicians and medical students residing on the mainland will participate in on-site visits and exchanges, delving into the shared roots of traditional Chinese medicine culture across the Strait, and engaging in in-depth communication and cooperation.
Humanities as a Bridge, Quanzhou Showcases the Charm of Maritime Silk Road Traditional Chinese Medicine
At the opening ceremony, Zhuang Shaojin, Vice President of the Quanzhou Overseas Friendship Association, used “the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road” as an introduction, pointing out that Quanzhou, as a window for the integration of cross-strait traditional Chinese medicine culture, is willing to use medicine as a bridge and friendship as a bond, to jointly continue the century-old medical heritage, promote medical development together, and compose a new chapter in serving society.
Policy Empowerment, Fujian Builds the “First Home” for Taiwan Physicians on the Mainland
Liu Lianghui, Party Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, pointed out that Fujian is leveraging its “frontline with Taiwan” advantage to introduce Taiwan-benefiting policies such as professional qualification certification and research funding support. The previous two study camps have attracted nearly 70 Taiwan physicians, and this session will continue to deepen cross-strait medical cooperation. The Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots will fully support Taiwan compatriots in integrating into the construction of the cross-strait integrated development demonstration zone. Qiu Long, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Quanzhou Municipal Health Commission, provided an on-site interpretation of the “policy package,” covering employment subsidies, a fast track for professional titles, physician qualification exam guidance, and incentives for Taiwan-funded medical institutions, emphasizing that Quanzhou will build a highland for cross-strait innovation and entrepreneurship in traditional Chinese medicine talent.
Dedication to Society, Building a Bridge for Cross-Strait Medical and Elderly Care Exchange
In his speech, Vice President Lin Jingcang of our university showcased the university’s achievements in cooperation with Taiwan universities. He introduced that the university has signed academic exchange agreements with several Taiwan universities, jointly launched pilot projects for common standards in elderly care, and organized Taiwan students to participate in the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Experience Camp.” “We will, guided by the school motto ‘Dedication to Society with Sincerity and Skill,’ create a zero-distance exchange platform for teachers and students across the Strait.”
During the event, participants visited the university’s Life Science Museum and Chinese Materia Medica Museum, embarking on an in-depth journey of exploration in medicine and culture. In the Life Science Museum, they experienced the mysteries of the human body’s nine major systems through modern display methods. Afterwards, entering the Chinese Materia Medica Museum, they appreciated the profoundness of traditional Chinese medicine culture—from herbal specimens to processing techniques, every detail highlighted the wisdom and charm of traditional medicine, giving participants a deeper understanding of the inheritance and development of Chinese medicine.
Youth Relay, Jointly Building a Cross-Strait Health Community
At the opening ceremony, representatives of Taiwan compatriots shared their development experiences in Fujian and looked forward to the prospects of cross-strait medical integration. With deep emotion, Mao Zhiyuan remarked that a decade of exchanges has proven the shared origins of medical practice across the Strait, calling for seizing the opportunity to jointly build a health community. Chen Bozhui, participating in the camp for the third time, believes that the study camp not only allows Taiwan physicians and medical students to experience the essence and spirit of saving lives, but also enables them to serve local communities through practical engagement, understand the achievements of integrating technology and medicine, and greatly enhance their own medical skills.
With the successful conclusion of the opening ceremony, this cross-Strait medical dialogue is certain to inject new vitality into integrated development across the Strait, ushering in a new chapter of “medical benevolence, united hearts across the Strait.”
